Core members also have access to communal studios for work that involves hazardous materials or processes or amplified sound. CORE HISTORY
The 30 unit living spaces of CORE co-operative were the result of a deal negotiated in 1995 between the City of Vancouver and Al Gore Development Corporation. The developers had purchased an industrial zoned building in the DTES and wanted it to be rezoned in order to develop a live/work studio building called "The Edge." After the agreement was reached with the developers, the City called for artists to help build an artist live/work space inside The Edge. Throughout 1997 and ‘98, seven artists worked in collaboration with the City of Vancouver and Access Building Association to create an artists’ live/work co-operative. The Core Artists Live/Work Co-operative was legally incorporated in 1998, and moved into the Edge building in 1999. Core is governed by the Co-operative Association Act and is run by its members.
