Joy, triptych, acrylic on canvas, 1967
Among artists of his generation in Canada, Michael Morris has been the consummate collaborator, instigator, organizer, facilitator and networker. Over the past 45 years, he has worked with General Idea*, Vehicule, Intermedia, Plug-in Gallery, A Space, Works, Coach House Press, Eye Level, and Western Front – all leading and critically important artists' centres. More importantly, Morris linked these centres and their artists with those in Europe, the U.S. and other countries – Art Fluxus, Art and Language, Ant Farm, Ray Johnson's New York Correspondence School, and the artists at DAAD in Berlin among numerous others. This linkage transformed the lives of many Canadian artists and brought an international dimension to the cutting edge of art thinking and creation in Canada.” – David Silcox C.M., M.A., LL.D., F.R.S.A., author, art historian and currently Vice Chairman, Advisory Board, Sotheby's Canada.Governor General award 2012, Audain life time achievement award, 2015
